Five-minute favours, cited in the networking and relationships chapter of You Coach You, are quick and simple ways to create and support connections with the people around you. And, if turned it into a daily ritual, the tactic will gradually help you grow a long-lasting and close careers community.
Looking for opportunities to do something effortless and kind for the people around you is the name of the game. It could be as simple as bringing someone a cup of tea without them asking, and here are some examples shard by Helen and Sarah to get you going.
Send someone an article, podcast or book recommendation you think they’d be interested in.
Connect or introduce two people in your career community.
Write a LinkedIn recommendation for someone.
Give some strengths based feedback; “I thought you were brilliant in that meeting because...”
Send someone a video message, voicemail or of support or encouragement before something you know's important for them.

Maintaining relationships can be challenging, but if you commit to a daily five-minute favour over the course of two months, you’ll have touched the lives of up to fifty people. It’s a sustainable, simple way to invest in your career community.
