What can Superheroes teach us about Impostor Syndrome?

"It's not about where you were born. Or what powers you have. Or what you wear on your chest. It's about what you do… It's about action" — Superman

Join coach, facilitator and therapist Raul Aparici for an enlightening and practical take on that all too familiar concept of Imposter Syndrome — and to pick up practical approaches for pushing past it, pulled from the perspectives of powerful sources.

Sounds familiar?

Do you ever feel like your achievements are mostly due to luck? That there are vastly more qualified people out there who are doing a much better job than you are? That your employment history is a series of oversights by recruiters who OBVIOUSLY weren't paying close enough attention when they took you on? That your talents are impressive enough, but not really when compared to the talents of those around you?

In other words, do you ever feel like a Hawkeye or a Black Widow in a room full of Thors and Captain Marvels?

If your answer is yes, you are not alone: most of us have felt like an impostor at some point in our careers. We become crippled by self-doubt and feel like we will never belong or be good enough. And the more successful we become, the worse it gets; dealing with our impostor has nothing to do with our actual skills or competence.

In this short session, led with humour and compassion by Raul Aparici*, we'll

• Look at a brief history and a definition of the concept of Impostor Syndrome.
• Build our confidence levels (both in feeling and appearing confident).
• Understand the different types of impostor.
• Recognise how they can trip us up at work and in life.
• Practice approaches that help us to enjoy our achievements and inspire others to do the same.
• Draw lessons from some legendary superheroes, and other fantastic sources.

* Raul Aparici is a coach, consultant, therapist, academic and facilitator and naturally feels woefully under-qualified to deliver this session.
