Purposeful Presenting

Purposeful Presenting

“Ideas are not really alive if they are confined to only one person’s mind." — Nancy Duarte, Resonate

This two-hour session is for those seeking to continually improve their presentational skills, with lots of new tools and techniques to take away, try and apply — virtually and in-person.

Many of us don't look forward to speaking publicly. But we're often called on to do so — formally, informally, to big groups or small ones, on screens and in rooms — often aiming to get people on board to our point of view. And we all instinctively know a good public speaker when we see one; they make it look easy, and seem so natural doing it. But if we want to get better, where do we begin?

Ultimately it's all about 'being ourselves with skill', and consciously approaching any kind of presentation with a practical framework in mind, smart tools to hand and a willingness to adapt to what comes from our audience. This session is about achieving just that, trying out lots of proven approaches to making a difference to the impression we make.

What we'll cover:

• Story structures, and the power of tension
• Tools for impact, virtually and in-person
• Signposting and expectation setting
• Beginning and ending well
• Enticing and managing questions
• Knowing your audience (because they're the hero)

How the session will be structured:

Expect an energising and practical session in which lots of tools and techniques are shared and tried out together.

Who the session is for:

Anyone who wants to refine or build on their existing presentation skills, among a supportive group of peers.
